Getting started : Waggler fishing

When people start to get into fishing they will start with the Waggler (float) fishing, plus there's nothing more exciting then watching the float sink underwater when you get a bite. You don't have to cast far when your fishing with the Waggler ideally 20-30 yards. You may also find a good deal down at your local tackle shop to get you on the bank.

Rod
With the waggler rod you can get them from 9ft to 14ft, one of the things you'll like about the waggler is that its light so you can carry it up and down the river or around the lake and you don't have to worry about a rod rest, when fishing for silver fish or small carp its best to get a rod that has a soft tip action but when casting a large float like a pellet float or targeting large carp you'll need to go for a more powerful rod.

Reel
When it comes to the reel, you'll need a small reel that has a good line lay, front drag, smooth action. when you hit the tackle shop they might have a rod and reel combo deal

Float
The floats come in different sizes and types, type one is 'straight' which the name suggest its made from peacock quill or other material that is the same diameter through out. type two is 'insert' this has  a slimmer length of cane or fibreglass inserted in the top of the peacock quill. This slimmer sight tip is much more sensitive and will emphasise shy bites hopmuch easier than the thick top of a ‘straight’ waggler. With both of these floats they can come in loaded or unloaded, me personally I prefer unloaded as you can move the shots up and down the line to adjust the baits fall in in the water column. Sizes uses numbers and letter the number is for the amount of shots is required and the letter is for the type of shot is required so for example 3BB means 3 shots of the BB. Then you can add small shots on the hooklink to help the hook link sink faster.

Bait
With the bait you have endless amount of bait to choose from, but nothing will beat the maggots whether its single or double. Corn is also another popular bait to use with the waggler. Pellets is perfect if your in a match but if you plan to use pellets make sure you buy a pellet waggler. Good think with the bait of your choice is you can catapult a small amount around the float meaning it will fall around your hook, making fish compete for the food and one of them will take your hook.

What's in my bag
The tackle I have in my bag are the following:
Rod - Middy Arco-Tech X-tenda k-335 waggler 11'-12' carp rod
Reel - Middy GDF 3000 reel
Line - Middy M-tech carp commercial line 0.25/10lb

I hope this helps you to get started with your fishing journey, now is the perfect time to hit the bank and catch loads of fish. Make sure you take your rod license with you at all times and enjoy you time on the bank.
