Quarry Clothing Co
With fishing there are a few things you need or want to buy, rods, reel, line, end tackle, bait, bivvy, bedchair the list goes on and on. But there's one thing that every angler must have and that's comfortable, warm clothing.
Clothing in fishing is a big market with all the big brands like Korda, Fox, trakker all have there own clothing brand along with all there equipment, but yet there are clothing brand that only sells clothing. Which for me is perfect because they are anglers themselves they know what every angler wants or needs in clothing. Luckily I'm part of a great team at Quarry Clothing Co. Jason and Craig are brothers who started Quarry Clothing Co together and I asked them a few questions Jason happily answered for this blog.
I first asked ''What made you start Quarry Clothing Co?'' Jason replied with ''Me and Craig started QC through a love of carp fishing and design and this came together in a range of clothing. We knew we had some good ideas and it seemed the best way to express them. The carpy clothier is now a pretty popular thing but we just love to have our hat in the ring''. To me to have carp clothing run by anglers themselves makes me feel instantly that they understand what every day angler need from there clothing, run by anglers for anglers.
With every company there is going to be competition so what makes Quarry Clothing stand out from the rest? '' I think we stand out for our T-shirt and hoodie designs. We love the artwork we create and a lot of it is tattoo inspired combined with the traditional carpy elements we feel it works really well.'' Now being a tattoo person myself I couldn't agree more with Jason, I haven't seen another clothing range with tattoo concept design and the hoodies from QC are comfortable and so warm.
Along with competition you have to think long term goals, so I asked ''where do you see Quarry Clothing in a few years time?'' ''Genuinely I don’t know, I’d like to think it’s grown into a household name and is thriving but I’m not a greedy man. I started this as more of a hobby through my love of carping so whatever comes I’m happy.'' Quarry Clothing Co has been round few awhile now, when I first got into carp fishing roughly 4 years ago they were just starting up and now they are a household name in my eyes going strength to strength every year and for them to start this as a hobby to what it is now is truly tremendous from two humble brothers.
With every brand/company they do look for people to apply to be team members to help represent the brand to get it more notice, I myself is fortunate to be part of the QC and with Jason he responded to my question of ''what do you look out for when people apply to be a team member?'' ''Firstly I like to see someone who’s already supporting the brand. It’s so easy for lads just to come cap in hand to a company because they want free or discounted gear. Although our main aim is not to milk some kind of cash cow it’s still a business and can’t afford it. That’s where we need lads who are keen to be involved and help us increase awareness by having a genuine connection and a desire as strong as ours to build the brand''. I couldn't agree more with this before I applied I bought the hoodie, T-shirt and cap as I like the merchandise and want to be happy with it, I have seen bait company or end tackle company looking for people but some people take advantage by trying get a cheap deal, with what QC are doing its not just financial security but also protecting the brand, seeing what other team members do for QC you can see they love the brand and enjoy being part of this team.
With Clothing, bait or end tackle there's always one product that your proud of and that's your favourite with Jason its ''I think my favourite so far has been the joggers. They were designed and built by us and are a real top quality product. Warm, thick and long lasting, not just a generic jogger pushed out as a necessity. I also love our original banquarrior hoodie, the design Craig did was mega and our first release so obviously special''. My personal favourite is the banquarrior heavy hoodie, its so comfy, practical, the design is incredible, simply yet epic.
Now I had to ask this question just see what's coming out soon as when ever a new product drops from your favourite brand it makes all of us feel like Christmas came early, will have to keep my eyes out for these as Jason said ''yes definitely, we have new shorts coming very soon, we have a new T-shirt design coming soon and we really wanna add some more hoodies with our other designs aswell'' Can't wait to see the new products, I'm sure they will be awesome.
Now it wouldn't be a proper fishing interview without asking what probably every angler asks when they see someone on the bank ''what's your go to rig?'' ''I have 2 go to’s to be fair and they’ve been the same for a long long time. Bottom baits is always a snowman, longshank book with a rig ring, semi stiff braid and a small bit of shrink on the eye, and pop up is a Ronnie for me. I absolutely love the hook holds on both set ups and can’t see me changing for anything''. I have tried the snowman rig in the past but for me I didn't have much luck but its great that Jason has two rigs that covers different lake bed scenarios and for different baits. I do love the Ronnie I'm a big fan of it and will start it on one of my rods just to see if any carp takes it if not change it but if it works for Jason that's great.
With the final question I know that every fisherman has thought about this and some have been fortunate enough to do it. ''If you can fish anywhere in the world, where would you go?'' ''Currently I’d love to fish Dale hollow in the states. We have an ambassador out there and I’d love to hook up with him for a session. Carping is still so untouched as a catch and return sport out there that the fish are incredible and definitely one on my to do list one day''. I haven't thought about fishing in the states for carp, If I was to fish in the states it would be for shark or bass, but I like it how Jason wants to go out for a session with an ambassador out there, hopefully carp fishing takes off in the states and I'm sure Jason will work with the ambassador to get QC out in the states.
Want to give a big thank you to Jason for taking the time for answering my questions, top guy, great angler. I'm sure QC will have a bright future ahead, going strength to strength even during the pandemic. Hope you enjoyed reading this interview, have fun on the bank.
