Journal update

So its been a while since I last done a blog post, it has been a hectic few months, I last did my fishing session in Kent at Cackle Hills Fishery in August, only landed a baby Catfish on speci 1 during a 36 hour session. Was good to finally catch something from there, gave a very good fight caught on Monster hellfish from BC hookbaits. But since then I have moved up, over the boarder into Scotland. Carp fishing is slowly on the rise in Scotland but have found a few places to try but wont be able to get there for a while unfortunately, but also I can give Fly Fishing ago again as there's lots of places to go and really excited to see how I get on. However sadly BC hookbaits will no longer be operating due to current circumstances, Rob explained to everyone on the team why he decided to do it. We all understand and support his decision, wish him all the best. Just want to thank Rob aswell for letting me doing the videos and launch BC Hookbaits TV I understand there wasn't much ...

Quarry Clothing Co

Image
With fishing there are a few things you need or want to buy, rods, reel, line, end tackle, bait, bivvy, bedchair the list goes on and on. But there's one thing that every angler must have and that's comfortable, warm clothing. Clothing in fishing is a big market with all the big brands like Korda, Fox, trakker all have there own clothing brand along with all there equipment, but yet there are clothing brand that only sells clothing. Which for me is perfect because they are anglers themselves they know what every angler wants or needs in clothing. Luckily I'm part of a great team at Quarry Clothing Co. Jason and Craig are brothers who started Quarry Clothing Co together and I asked them a few questions Jason happily answered for this blog. I first asked ''What made you start Quarry Clothing Co?'' Jason replied with '' Me and Craig started QC through a love of carp fishing and design and this came together in a range of clothing. We knew we had some ...

Elphicks Kettle lake 21-23/05/21

Image
On the 21st May I went to Elphicks fishery for 48 hours with my brothers Tom, Dave and with my Dad. This will be the last time I will fish with all three of them before I make a big move up to Scotland. At first I didn't know what to expect from this lake, when we arrived in the evening the weather didn't seem to do us any favours with the overcast clouds. But luckily enough we was able to park our cars right next to the lake and was able to set up very quick. We had most of the lake to chose from and me being the youngest I had last choice of swim but I was happy with my swim as it gave me the island to aim for. Also earlier on that day I collect my first batch of pop ups an wafters from Black Country Hookbaits, I know Rob very well and he knows his stuff, the smell of each of the flavours I got were very strong and I instantly knew I will have a bite. The rigs I chosen for the session was the Ronnie Rig make from Rigworx size 6 Crank hook, chod & boom filament, with Unico...

How to tie : D-rig

Image
The D-rig is my favourite rig and my go to rig on all my sessions. Perfect with bottom baits or wafters, also great with different coloured kickers as it gives your bait that extra visual attraction. It is a simple rig to make once you get the hang of it, don't get discourage on your first try, it took me a few minutes to make my first D-rig after lots of attempts.  To make this awesome rig you'll need a few items; Curve shank hook Stiff link chod and boom filament Micro bait swivel or bait screw A kicker in a colour of your choice (if you want to use a kicker) Scissor And a lighter to help blob the chod and boom filament Once you have your items cut 10 inches of the stiff link chod and boom filament, after that create a small loop at one end of the filament then place the loop on the shank of the hook with the small tag end facing the eye of the hook. With the loop trap the small tag end along the shank of the hook by wrapping it, do this 4-6 times. Next pull both ends ti...

Cheeky few hours at a club water

Image
So it was Bank Holiday Monday and I fancied heading to the bank for a few hours, just to unwind after a very stressful two weeks at work. With being a member at the Headcorn and District Angling Society I have lots of waters at my disposal it was hard to choose but I wanted to go to a place where I have been before, where I caught but feel like I haven't truly unlocked its secrets. Went to a lovely place called Ringles. Ringles used to be a trout water before H.D.A.S took control from what I heard. Then when they acquired it the Trout's were removed and replaced with carps and silvers, no one knows what the biggest carp at the moment, people say 20+ but they haven't been seen for a while, the past few months a Ringles were tense for the club as there was a virus in the water that was killing some of the carp, luckily the Environmental agency helped the club resolving the issue and the water is safe to fish. when I arrived to the lake there was 32 swims to choose from and I ...

First 48 hours after lockdown - Cackle Hills

Image
Last weekend I had my first night session since lockdown restrictions was lifted in the UK thanks to the hard work from the Angling Trust, I did the 48 hours at Cackle Hill fishery on Speci 1 lake. Speci 1 is the main lake on the complex and the hardest, there are 3 lakes in total at the complex, a mixed lake for the pleasure angler, speci 1 and speci 2 (the biggest lake on the complex) Arrived just before 7am as I thought it would be busy as it was the Easter weekend and the whole complex was booked so I wanted to be close to the front of the cue to get set up quicker. Funny enough there was only one other vehicle at the gate when I arrived, soon as I parked up, had to do the long walk to my swim on the lake which was the furthest swim on the lake, when I got to my swim there was another angler who hasn't packed up, he did say he just had a double take so I cant blame him for not being out the swim, I kindly asked the angler what he caught, where he's baited up and what he use...

Getting started : Waggler fishing

Image
When people start to get into fishing they will start with the Waggler (float) fishing, plus there's nothing more exciting then watching the float sink underwater when you get a bite. You don't have to cast far when your fishing with the Waggler ideally 20-30 yards. You may also find a good deal down at your local tackle shop to get you on the bank. Rod With the waggler rod you can get them from 9ft to 14ft, one of the things you'll like about the waggler is that its light so you can carry it up and down the river or around the lake and you don't have to worry about a rod rest, when fishing for silver fish or smal...
