Cheeky few hours at a club water

So it was Bank Holiday Monday and I fancied heading to the bank for a few hours, just to unwind after a very stressful two weeks at work. With being a member at the Headcorn and District Angling Society I have lots of waters at my disposal it was hard to choose but I wanted to go to a place where I have been before, where I caught but feel like I haven't truly unlocked its secrets. Went to a lovely place called Ringles.

Ringles used to be a trout water before H.D.A.S took control from what I heard. Then when they acquired it the Trout's were removed and replaced with carps and silvers, no one knows what the biggest carp at the moment, people say 20+ but they haven't been seen for a while, the past few months a Ringles were tense for the club as there was a virus in the water that was killing some of the carp, luckily the Environmental agency helped the club resolving the issue and the water is safe to fish.

when I arrived to the lake there was 32 swims to choose from and I was there all by myself, but with Ringles there's never a bad swim, all swims have reed margins both sides perfect for match fishing on a pole. The water levels were high up which is good as it meant not going down steep step. Using three rods with different rigs, one on a hair rig with Rigworx size 6 wide gape, one with D-rig with Rigworx size 6 curve shank and the third rod one a Ronnie rig with Rigworx size 6 crank. Bait wise I was using Monster Baits Plum ice 14mm boilie on the hair and D-rig, Monster Baits Plum ice 15mm washed out yellow pop-up on the Ronnie.

Had a buoy in front just to the right of me and thought that would be a good area to hit with one of the rods, used the D-rig for it. Only used the single hook bait, didn't want to dump loads of bait in a kill my swim. The left hand rod I casted to the left side of the swim at 15 wraps with the Ronnie rig, I did put 4 boilies in a small mesh bag from T and T PVA Mesh on the hook to give a small amount of free bait that will be in the same spot as the rig. The middle rod I casted directly in front of me at 18 wraps with just the single hook bait, I didn't see any signs of carp when I arrived but I just had a good feeling in my swim, the depth towards the buoy was 6 ft, then as you go beyond it drops down to 10ft then further you go drops to 15 ft.

After spending two hours behind the rods, the middle rod ripped off, which really surprised me as I didn't expect to get a bite from that spot first, after a short battle I landed a beautiful baby mirror carp, only 2-3 lbs but it ended my blank, was very happy especially the  condition it was in.

With a 48 hours session coming in a few weeks at Elphicks today was also a good chance to try a new bait, I've heard lots of great stuff about Monster Bait and thought I give them a try. After catching that small carp I instantly felt relieved with the bait. Normally I use 16mm boilies and pop-ups its something that prefer as they suit the hook size, but going down to 14mm it suited it today. Did have stick mix and pellets at my disposal I wanted to see how these boilies work on there own.                                                                                                                                                                                                                   After releasing the baby carp, I put the rod back to the same spot with a fresh Plum ice boilie, the other two rods I reeled in to check the hook and the bait, both of them still razor sharp and the bait still in great condition. Two more hours went by with out a bite which was frustrating but good things come to those that wait, with my session coming to a close I started to pack up my gear, reeled in both the right and left hand rod as I just about to put them in the bag the middle rod ripped off, there was an angry carp at the end but also it was another little carp, instantly felt the rod jolting back and forth a clear sign that it was a small carp, big carp normally use there weight and pull very slowly. Soon as I saw the carp I was over the moon, a cracking common carp at around 4-5 lbs was nailed in the bottom lip and the hook was still razor sharp went I unhooked the common

Being the last catch of the day seeing this lovely common in my net, made me think what else is in here, I know there's bigger carp swimming around but how big are they. Will definitely come back to Ringles for a few more sessions before I make my big move up to Scotland later on this year, seeing two cracking baby carp in great condition made me feel happy knowing that they have a great future here and that they will be some of those future target fish when they put on the pounds.

Not long till the next session  at Elphicks can't wait but since my Monday session I have just joined a new team Black Country Hook Baits. When Munga Baits closed down one of the member Rob decided to take up the mantle, since then he's came up with his own recipes to make amazing pop-ups. With his years of fishing experience he knows what carp love, all of his baits have been tried and tested by himself so he knows that what he puts in the bait works to give it a more personal touch. When he announced Black Country Hook Baits he messaged me to say what's going on and what he plans to do, Boilies are in the framework and I cant wait to get my hands on them, when the opportunity came to be a team member I couldn't pass it, Rob only uses top quality ingredients and know what his plans are I wanted to be part of it and help out in anyway I can. Head over and check out Black Country Hook Baits Facebook page, Instagram or there website to order top quality baits.
